Teaching Phonics to Elementary Students
Although I know the alphabet and their corresponding sounds, and I consider myself a proficient reader, at the time of composing this folder, I am admittedly a bit rusty when it comes to understanding why some letters make some sounds (i.e.: 'ph' sounds like 'f'). I came across and a great PDF document from Jan Norris, PhD whereby she outlines a program on how to teach phonics; including visual depictions of mouth movements to pronounce letters. I have compiled these resources for my own reference to have in my toolbox as a beginning teacher. Prior to teaching a phonics lesson, I will use these resources to refresh my knowledge until it becomes routinized.
